Position Summary
Reporting to the Production Supervisor/Superintendent, the Production Lead Hand is responsible for organizing and delegating shop floor activities on a daily basis.
Principal Responsibilities and Duties
· Responsible for ensuring proper health & safety procedures are followed
· Provide instruction and training to production workers on how to properly operate the various shop machines in accordance with Salit SOP’s
· Coordinate the production and shipping priorities for their shift
· Operates machinery, equipment and tools in a safe and efficient manner. Ensure machine guards are in place and material is handled in a safe manner. Must wear appropriate safety equipment as specified.
· Operation of Overhead Cranes (Training certification required prior to operating)
· Use of a measuring tape to check material lengths
· Follow work instructions, procedures and adhere to Company policies and rules
· Report any unsafe acts or conditions of which you are aware
· Maintaining regular attendance, arriving for scheduled shift on-time
· Maintaining a clean and organized work area
· Adhere to the requirements of section 28 of the Occupational Health & Safety Act
Working Conditions
· Work is performed in a non-climate controlled environment. Temperatures will fluctuate in accordance with the weather and the season. Employees are to dress appropriately for the weather conditions.
· Continuous walking, standing
· Occasional heavy lifting – Employees are to use two man lift techniques or other lifting devices for loads that exceed their ability to lift safely (eg. Overhead Crane)
· Working in the yards and shops with the steel is dirty, wear suitable clothing.
Physical Requirements
· Able to work on your feet – repetitive standing / walking
· Lifting up to 50 lbs
· Must wear hard hat, safety Glasses, earplugs, gloves, safety boots

Preferred Qualifications
· Previous experience in a manufacturing or construction environment (2 – 3 years)
· Grade 12 diploma
· Previous overhead crane or fork truck operating experience is an asset.
· Experience leading/supervising others
