The Visitor Experience Manager position includes planning, coordination and managing the development and delivery of visitor programs, services and activities in Jasper National Park.
The position manages a dedicated team of staff who are passionate about their work. The area of responsibility includes visitor information services, interpretation including theatre and evening campfire programs, campgrounds, entry gates, product development, relationships with Indigenous Partners and business licence holders. The primary visitor season is in the summer, many staff on this team work seasonally.
You and your staff (of over 150) contribute directly to achieving Parks Canada’s corporate priorities and the implementation of its core values through actions in Jasper National Park. Your role encompasses all aspects of the services and facilities offered to visitors. Your team includes:
- Product development staff who plan, develop and renew products, events, partnerships, publications and other communication channels;
- Sales and market development staff who work with the travel trade and 3rd party partners to facilitate visitors’ access to Jasper National Park;
- Front-line visitor services staff deliver or support visitor services in a wide variety of park locations: the Jasper East, West, and Parkway Gates, 11 road accessible campgrounds including Whistlers Campground which is the largest single-entry campground in Parks Canada’s national network; two visitor information centres, seven major day-use areas (Maligne Lake, Maligne Canyon, Pyramid Lake, Lakes Edith/Annette, Sunwapta and Athabasca falls, the Columbia Icefields area), 61 viewpoints and road pull-offs, 33 picnic sites, and over 1000 km of trails; and
- National park interpreters and guardians who present programs and activities that engage and educate park visitors.
You work strategically with external stakeholders, community and regional partners in order to ensure the Agency and its partners are providing, planning and designing the best opportunities for visitor experiences.
This work is enabled by a cross-functional environment which has you working closely with others who share aspects of the programs including Resource Conservation, External Relations, Asset Management and Indigenous Relations and Cultural Heritage Programs. In addition, you and your team contribute to many of the program elements led by these other functions.
You work often and actively with your management team colleagues supporting each other in achieving, collectively, shared goals and Parks Canada’s vision and mandate. You will be collaborating with other members of Parks Canada’s team from other field units and national office to contribute to larger scale program efforts and very importantly you will contribute to evolving relationships with various Indigenous Partners.
Your workday is full, variable, and diverse. Most days you will be responsible for the proper functioning of the Visitor Experience team which includes management of a $4.5M salary budget, $1M goods and services budget and support of various capital initiatives. - Graduation with a degree or diploma from a recognized educational institution with specialization in business administration, marketing, recreation, protected areas management, leisure studies, communication, or other discipline relevant to the position or an acceptable combination of education, training, and experience.
- An acceptable combination of education and experience may be considered if you do not have a degree or diploma. For example, relevant experience and career advancement in a recreation, tourism and/or business organization that includes at least two years of management experience.
NOTE: Proof of education will be required at time of interview.
- Reviewing and applying social science research and market analysis to identify target markets and enhance or develop visitor experience opportunities;
- Planning, developing and delivering programs, activities, operations, services and/or facilities in a tourism related context;
- Establishing and maintaining collaborative arrangements to develop and deliver opportunities for visitor experience;
- Managing human resources. Applicants must clearly demonstrate they have recruited and supervised staff, assigned work, managed and assessed performance, and implemented training plans. Applicants must indicate the number of staff they have supervised;
- Managing financial resources. Applicants must show evidence of managing and being accountable for a budget for two (2) complete fiscal years. This experience is defined as being responsible for sound financial management planning, forecasting and reporting. Applicants must also indicate the size of the budget they managed directly.

Reliability Status security clearance - You are required to obtain and maintain this security level throughout this employment at Parks Canada Agency.

- You will be required to possess and maintain a valid Class 5 driver’s licence recognized by the province/territory applicable to this offer of employment.
