(35 hours per week; Monday, Tuesday & Thursday = 10AM - 6PM; Wednesday & Friday = 1PM - 9PM)

Located in Toronto, the Art Gallery of Ontario (“the AGO”) is one of the largest art museums in North America, with a collection of close to 100,000 works. Through the collection as well as collaborations with leading museums around the world, the AGO presents wide-ranging exhibitions and programs to approximately 1 million visitors annually.
We are currently seeking a Regular Full-Time Building Operator to join the Plant Operations team to help ensure the efficient and effective operation and maintenance of the physical building for all occupants and the collection. Under the direction of the Director, Plant & Building Infrastructure, the Building Operator performs preventative, demand, and corrective maintenance on mechanical operating equipment and building environmental systems throughout the Gallery. The role troubleshoots building related problems including, but not limited to mechanical, electrical, architectural, plumbing, life safety, elevator, steam and hot water boiler systems and their respective auxiliary equipment.

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications, skills, and experience:

Mandatory Ontario Building Environmental Systems Operator (BES) Class 1, OR Ontario 4rd Class Stationary Engineering License.

Current Ontario 3rd Class Stationary Engineering License preferred.

Current Ontario Refrigeration Class B License preferred.

Minimum of five years related work experience in a comparable position in a comparable sized facility.

Thorough working knowledge of building mechanical, electrical and automated building systems, related practices, procedures and activities required.

Thorough knowledge of appropriate computer systems.

Thorough knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Systems (WHMIS), safety regulations and practices.

Demonstrated ability to work independently or in a team environment.

Demonstrated troubleshooting & problem solving skills.

Participates and contributes in cross-functional team activities/projects and puts team goals ahead of individual goals.

Communicates effectively and maintains productive relationships with all levels of the organization including internal / external contacts.

Must be available to work evenings, shift work, and on-call shifts (subject to change).
