BUSINESS SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR
POSITION SUMMARY
The Vector Institute is an independent, not-for-profit Canadian corporation dedicated to AI research.
We work across sectors to advance AI application, adoption, and commercialization across Canada.
We are seeking a new seasoned Business Systems Administrator to join our growing Business Computing team in Toronto. The organization is growing and moving into a newly built office at the Schwartz Reisman Innovation Centre in downtown Toronto. This position will play a key role in designing, implementing, and managing all new networking and infrastructure for Vector’s new offices.
The Vector Institute supports flexible work arrangements. This position requires a reasonable degree of on-site work which will vary depending on the project commitments and organizational activities. As a result, the ability to work remotely will fluctuate and will be determined in accordance with current business needs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist in the implementation and management of Vector’s new network infrastructure and Wi-Fi infrastructure;
Preside over the office network infrastructure and provide support on connectivity issues such as switches, routers, network printers, IP phones, video conferencing;
Manage and maintain Vector’s WAN and LAN network services (DNS, DHCP, IPS, etc.);
Work collaboratively with the institute’s Scientific Computing team to support cross connectivity between Vector’s office and its scientific computing environment in a remote collocation site;
Manage office servers and storage infrastructure and provide support as required;
Act as a member of Vector’s cybersecurity team responsible for implementing, managing, and monitoring security systems and services;
Provide guidance and support to our staff and researchers;
Develop and maintain business infrastructure solutions; and,
Perform routine hardware and software monitoring and maintenance.
KEY SUCCESS MEASURES:
Maintain high availability of network, security, and communication services.
Ensure the smooth functioning of the business systems and network infrastructure, through regular monitoring, maintenance, and renewal of equipment and services.
Build and maintain tools that facilitate the automated or direct administration of network and computing infrastructure, both locally and in the cloud.
PROFILE OF THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
Degree or diploma in computer science or engineering or equivalency through more than five years network administration in a multiplatform (Mac/Linux/Windows) environment, preferably in a research or academic environment;
Hands on experience maintaining an office local area network including access switches, core switches, and routing with a base of at least 200 end users;
Hands on experience and understanding of VLANs, routing protocols, policy-based routing, link aggregation and secure VPN tunnels;
Hands-on experience with Next Generation Enterprise Firewalls and managing secure Enterprise wireless infrastructure;
Demonstrated ability to learn quickly, prioritize tasks and resolve problems in a timely manner;
Ability to work autonomously, multi-task and work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment;
Ability to work proactively, addressing potential problems before they occur;
Ability to interact effectively with a diverse range of end users while troubleshooting issues; and,
Strong attention to detail.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCES BELOW ARE CONSIDERED AN ASSET:
Experience with multifactor authentication systems
Cybersecurity experience and/or certifications
Experience with log management systems such as SIEMs for log collection, consolidation, and analysis
CCNA, or similar experience, is a bonus.
