Job Description :
Reporting to the Vice-President, Regulatory Affairs and working closely with the business units, the Director, Regulatory Affairs, Telecommunications will be responsible for regulatory files relating to telecommunications at Cogeco. This is a position of considerable strategic importance within the organization, since effective regulatory advocacy is essential to the successful pursuit of our business objectives.
The priorities of the Director, Regulatory Affairs, Telecommunications include taking the lead on the organization’s regulatory issues as they relate to telecommunications; building a relationship of trust with peers within the Company; and assuming leadership on regulatory issues related to telecommunications, in order to represent and defend the interests of the Company and its subsidiaries.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Represent Cogeco and its Canadian subsidiaries in telecommunications regulatory proceedings, including before the CRTC and Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED);
Represent Cogeco in dispute resolution proceedings (mediation, arbitration) before the CRTC or ISED;
Provide advice and regulatory opinions on telecommunications issues;
Seize business opportunities of a regulatory nature and communicate them to the divisions;
Monitor regulatory developments relating to telecommunications, particularly with respect to mobile wireless services, and ensure that persons concerned with these matters within the company are kept informed; and when required, provide regulatory expertise to the Public Affairs and Communications Group and take part in lobbying efforts, meetings or presentations to government bodies.
REQUIREMENTS
ACADEMIC TRAINING
WORK EXPERIENCE
At least 8 years of experience working in a regulated environment, preferably telecommunications; and
An understanding and interest in regulatory issues relating to communications, including specifically regulatory matters affecting mobile wireless services.
SPECIFIC SKILLS
Excellent knowledge of the regulatory environment as it relates to the telecommunications sector;
Good analytical mind;
A results-oriented mindset;
Exceptional written communication skills, in both French and English. The position requires working closely with external and internal resources across Canada;
Ability to work on several files simultaneously and meet deadlines;
A self-starter with a sense of initiative and organization as well as sound judgment;
Possess an intellectual curiosity; and
Be a team player.
This position can be based either in Montreal, Ottawa or Toronto.
