Nature of Work:
Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Senior Accountant is accountable to provide support and short & long term guidance to the financial performance of the MacKenzie Art Gallery. The right applicant has experience and expertise in accurate recording, processing and maintaining of accounting records and financial statements. Experience in non-profit organizations would be considered an asset.
1. Financial: Ensure accounts are maintained in accordance with the principles of fund accounting; responsible for accurate recording of transactions and preparation of financial statements and financial reports in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); Prepare financial reports for grant applications and grant follow-up reports; Assist in inventory of Welcome Centre Gift Shop; Maintain Fixed Asset, and Acquisition of Art Financial Records; Plan, process and maintain all accounting records and files including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, banking, payroll, taxes, fixed assets, sales and inventory systems in accordance with acceptable standards; provide guidance and leadership to staff regarding accounting policies and procedures; train staff on internal accounting practices and procedures and assist with development of new practices and procedures when necessary.
2. Payroll: Responsible for accurate recording and processing of bi-weekly payroll in accordance with CUPE 5791 Collective Agreement and all provincial and federal related laws ensuring all deadlines are met and payment is made in accordance to Gallery Policy; Responsible for processing contract honorariums in separate QuickBooks Online payroll account; Responsible for management of QuickBooks Online self-service payroll accounts for all active employees; Responsible for processing Record of Employments; Responsible for reconciliation of QuickBooks Online reporting to U of R FAST payroll distribution report; Responsible for allocation and oversight of Short Term Disability fund.
3. Information Technology: Work with the Director of Operations to plan and budget the IT needs of the gallery. This includes alignment of technology to business processes, equipment renewal, software licensing, business system assessment, disaster recovery/business continuity planning and policy development.
4. Accessibility and Equity: Ability to promote equity and inclusion as core concepts in all actions and decisions affecting people, programs and procedures.

Qualifications - Education: Bachelor’s degree (Business Administration or Commerce)
Qualifications - Experience: A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in accounting field; experience working with QuickBooks Online, Profitek, Veevart and MS Office Suite, experience working in non-profit or arts considered an asset.
Skills: Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality; ability to show initiative working both independently and cooperatively in a team environment under multiple deadlines and in high pressure situations; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with management, staff, fluent in Microsoft office; excellent verbal and written communication; excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
