Position Summary
As a member of the Comprehensive Integrated Pain Program/Day Surgery Unit nursing and multi-disciplinary team, the Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) practices in accordance with relevant legislation/standards, the UHN Professional Practice Model and the mission and vision of nursing at the UHN to provide compassionate, collaborative and competent care, while meeting the legal and ethical requirements of the profession.
Duties

Contributing to the patient assessment process.

Implementing patient care plan including performing and/or providing assistance that include a limited range of strategies and interventions.

Collaborating with other members of the multi-disciplinary health care team.

Acting as patient advocate; contributing to the smooth functioning of the department.

Attending seminars and workshops to facilitate personal and professional growth.
-
Performs the duties of the scrub nurse consistent with the job description as assigned.

Performing other duties consistent with the job classification as assigned.
Qualifications
-
Completion of college, or other approved Registered Practical Nursing program including practicum experience.

Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (B.C.L.S.) certification.

Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse.

3-5 years of recent Surgical experience.

Recent Ambulatory Day Surgery experience and surgical admission experience required.

Well developed conceptual and theoretical understanding of nursing concepts as they relate to patient population and an ability to articulate these concepts.

Well developed clinical decision making skills that reflect patient centeredness, problem solving and critical thinking.

Very good verbal and written communication skills.
-
Very good interpersonal, organizational and time management skills.
-
Demonstrated ability to work as a team member.
-
Must be able to meet the physical demands of the job.

Ability to work under pressure.
