We are looking for a talented Mechanical Engineer to join our growing international industry-leading team in life sciences design. This role will be based in Charlottetown, PEI.
As a Mechanical Engineer, you will assist senior staff in planning, designing, and directing mechanical engineering projects. The assignments contain specific tasks on project teams and you will use your education, creativity, and expertise to resolve the engineering problems and tasks as assigned. However, more experienced staff will always be available to help you when needed.
Position Responsibilities

Prepares design computations and develops probable cost estimates for the smaller projects within the business unit.

Modifies scopes of work for mechanical designs (HVAC /Utilities /Plumbing /Fire Protection) based on preliminary review and client meetings.

Assist with the preparation of engineering studies and schematic designs for new HVAC/Utilities /Plumbing /Fire Protection systems and analyze the operation of existing systems.

Makes calculations using engineering formulas and skills for design such as heating and cooling loads, equipment sizing, etc.

Makes calculations using engineering formulas and code knowledge for the design of building domestic water distribution and sanitary /storm drainage systems.

Selects equipment based on recommendations of the Project Designer/Engineer and fills out equipment schedules.

Researches code issues and asks relevant questions of code officials and other design professionals when an interpretation or exception to building codes is required.

Reviews the work of the project design teams, checks the progress of the work, and alerts Project Managers of scope changes or additional services.

Provides drawings for own designs and produces sketches to incorporate in drawings by drafters.

Coordinates all aspects of project document completion within IPS, externally with clients, and with other relevant design professionals.

Reports on design budgets based on the project scope as needed.

Promotes the use of IPS design and production standards.

Qualifications & Requirements:
- 4+ years of previous engineering /design experience in the building design industry, specifically in HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection design.

Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Expertise in computer operation for engineering design programs and computer-aided drafting (AutoCAD & Revit).

General knowledge of airside systems, and hydronic systems along with the sanitary, storm, domestic water distribution, stormwater design, natural gas piping design, and applicable codes.
Preferred Qualifications

Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.).

Previous experience with pharma /cleanroom projects.
