Position Reports To: Director, Maintenance & Asset Management
Position Overview
Reporting to the Director, Maintenance & Asset Management, the Manager, Strategic Major Consumables Category will oversee the strategic major consumables category governance for the entire company, collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure clarity of specifications and expectations. This role involves leading negotiations and bidding activities with suppliers to achieve optimal quality, service, and cost, while managing risk in supply contracts and agreements. The position plays a critical role in developing procurement strategies, ensuring compliance with internal controls, and driving cost reduction and optimization initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Procurement
Overseeing the Strategic major consumables category governance for the entire company.
Collaborate with key persons to ensure clarity of the specifications and expectations of New Gold.
Lead negotiations and bidding activities with suppliers to ensure the best quality, service and cost to achieve the business objectives.
Oversee and perform risk management for supply contracts and agreements.
Partner with user groups in development and launch procurement strategy timelines, cost and quality goals, and service level to clients.
Provide necessary inputs for supply agreement and monitor compliance.
Negotiate with external vendors to secure advantageous terms.
Oversees the total cost ownership (TCO) of the Strategic Major Consumables by site and drive initiative for cost reduction and optimization.
Establish and monitor clear roles and responsibilities to ensure compliance of provincial and deferral legislation.
Strategic Sourcing
Maintain knowledge of market trends for the strategic major consumables including analysis of market drivers, cost structures and technical improvements.
Perform risk management for supply contracts and agreements.
Discover profitable suppliers and initiate business and organization partnerships.
Perform spend, contract and market analysis for strategic major consumables.
Maintain a competitive sourcing environment leading to continuous improvement.
Communicate sourcing decisions to stakeholders and manage system updates.
Procurement process
Ensure that Procurement and supply chain guideline process and procedures are in place as well as compliance with New Gold internal controls.
Lead supplier development activities, set-up cross functional review meetings with suppliers in order to improve performance and further reduce cost.
Ensure that all procurement/supply chain operations are considered on SAP strategy according to the operational requirements, standards, procedures and business orientation.
Metrics and Procurement Performance
Work in direct support of Director of Maintenance & Asset Management and across Procurement Senior Leadership teams at New Gold sites to establish metrics to measure Procurement's performance in relation to strategic major consumables.
Track Value Delivered on behalf of Procurement in a manner that ensures forecast accuracy throughout the Procurement department for monthly, quarterly and annual results.
Implement a standard performance management methodology for strategic major consumables.
Continuously monitor progress against targets and work with corporate and the New Gold sites to ensure accountability.
Track and report key functional metrics to reduce expenses and improve effectiveness.
Continuously track key supplier’s performance according to the defined framework.
Establish and own timely and insightful corporate and sites teams reporting of pertinent information to allow analysis of progress against strategic plan, targets and initiatives forecast, and to ensure integrity of those statements.
Provide clear analytics and reports to Procurement Leadership to support project prioritization decisions for main consumables.
Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Business Administration
A minimum of 8 years of progresive experience in a procurement field in the mining industry, including proven working experience as a procurement manager, procurement officer or head of procurement
Other Requirements
Knowledge of sourcing and procurement techniques, agreement management, market analysis, strategic planning as well as a dexterity in “reading” the market
Strong knowledge of Supply Chain Key Performance Indicators (KPI´s)
Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.
Excellent written/verbal communication/presentation skills in English.
Talent in negotiations and networking
Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office including SharePoint, Excel, Word, Outlook and Power BI.
Ability to use insight to predict future outcomes and use data to maximize all future opportunities.
SAP and Ariba experience will be an asset.
Ability to work in a team environment and independently.
Strong leadership capabilities
Willingness to travel occasionally to New Gold operations in Ontario and BC.
