Foran Mining Corporation (TSX:FOM), a modern mining company that wants to change what mining means to people, is seeking a Surface Supervisor to join their expanding McIlvenna Bay project team. This is a full-time position based at the McIlvenna Bay project site working 4 days on, 3 days off or 5 days on, 2 days off.
The McIlvenna Bay Cu-Zn-Au-Ag deposit is one of the largest undeveloped VHMS deposits in Canada. Foran recently completed (2022) a feasibility study for the deposit and is undertaking advanced exploration and detailed Engineering activities this year. The McIlvenna Bay deposit’s core commodities are critical for the global transition to green energy and Foran aims to extract these critical minerals in a sustainable manner by empowering local communities, contributing to circular economies and protecting the environment for future generations.

Surface Supervisor – Posting 2022-033
Foran Mining has recently completed a positive feasibility study for the McIlvenna Bay project and have started advanced design, permitting and preliminary construction activities to build underground mining and milling facilities as well as the supporting infrastructure. Initially, the Surface Supervisor will be responsible for the safe management of the ADEX and Exploration camps, housekeeping, site maintenance personnel, kitchen services and site services contractor. This role will require the site coordinator to adhere to and set an example for all employees to follow and will need to “lead” safety in the workplace. As construction is undertaken, the role will be expanded to include the operation of Tailing Management Facility (TMF).
Job Responsibilities:
Camp Management
- Room bookings and room spreadsheet management
- Camp material ordering (cleaning supplies, bedding, toiletries, etc)
- Camp Inspections (cleanliness, maintenance concerns)
- Manage staff required to clean the camps, bathrooms, showers, mine dry, gym, office spaces
Housekeeping
- Ensure all direct reports follow Foran safe operating procedures, policies and guidelines
- Ensure that all camps, showers, bathrooms, etc. are in a safe and orderly condition
- Supervise housekeeping staff
- Daily huddle meeting with staff
- Ensure personnel are completing daily, weekly and monthly tasks as outlined
- Timesheets and vacation requests
- Training housekeepers (as required)
Site Maintenance (including Water Treatment Plant)
- Ensure all direct reports follow Foran safe operating procedures, policies and guidelines
- Supervise Site Maintenance personnel
- Daily huddle meeting with staff
- Ensure personnel are completing daily, weekly and monthly tasks as outlined
- Manage schedule
- Training
- Timesheets and vacation requests
- Material ordering (repair supplies, water treatment supplies, paint, etc)
- Manage operation of water and wastewater systems (lake pumps, clearbakk unit, well cheks, lift stations, lagoons)
- Manage septic removal with hydrovac truck contractor
- Snow removal (stairs, decks, walkways, etc)
- Refuse removal (coordinate with refuse collection contractor
Kitchen Services
- Ensure all direct reports follow Foran safe operating procedures, policies and guidelines
- Supervise kitchen personnel
- Daily huddle meeting with staff
- Ensure personnel are completing daily, weekly and monthly tasks as outlined
- Manage schedule
- Food ordering and deliveries
- Kitchen/dining room inspections
- Ensure proper maintenance on all kitchen appliances and recruit repair support when necessary
Site Services
- Ensure all site services follow Foran safe operating procedures, policies and guidelines
- Supervise site services personnel
- Daily huddle meeting with staff
- Ensure personnel are completing daily, weekly and monthly tasks as outlined
- Manage schedule
- Inspect roadways and coordinate maintenance as required
- Generator fueling and maintenance schedule
- Order materials (fuel/oil filter, oil, coolant, Def, etc)
- Coordinate with ADEX, surface and exploration staff:
- Material movement,
- Road maintenance
- Snow removal
- Site digging
- Deliveries,
TMF Management
- Once commissioned, oversee Foran TMF team
- Supervise heavy equipment operators on transfer of materials to facility
- Perform mass balance reports on materials generated vs. placed
- Perform spot QAQC checks within the facility
- Ensure best practice water management in place at all times
In addition to the above listed tasks, the site coordinator will participate in numerous site meetings/communications, such as:
- Monthly safety meeting
- Daily coordination meeting
- 3-month forecast
- Others as required
- Check water meter, fuel levels and propane levels
- Daily Exp. camp inspection. Speak with cleaners regarding any concerns
- Transfer fuel (main supply tanks to exp. generator)
- Fuel generator at 3:00pm daily
- Walk/Inspect the sewage line (inspect for leaks and heat trace operation)
- Restock water bottles in camp
- Transfer garbage to main disposal site
- Call for pickup when only 2 bins are left empty
- Shovel snow, sand, plow parking lot with skid-steer (as required)
- Fill camp water tanks (9:00pm daily)
- Move core from inside tent (Tru-Scan) (skid-steer)
- Transfer core at core-shack. (skid-steer)
Bi-Weekly Tasks
- Supply management / ordering materials
- Walk/Inspect the water line from Hanson Lake
- Start of rotation and as needed
Monthly Tasks
- Fire Extinguisher checks
- Emergency lighting checks
- Contact Alex’s Septic to remove solids
Job Qualifications and Skills:
- Previous similar supervisory experience in an industrial setting
