Kelburn Clinic is a progressive, interdisciplinary addictions recovery centre dedicated to excellence in state-of-the-art treatment modalities. Our 12-bed facility is located on 40 acres of property surrounded by trees, walking trails, and a 9-hole golf course. Services include in-house residential treatment, detox, after-care, and family support programs with the future opportunity to offer an outpatient program. This is a permanent, full-time position.
Working under the supervision of the Clinical Director and Clinic Manager, Overnight Support Workers are an integral part of the therapeutic team and will be required to work alone and provide a range of supports to clients in a recovery setting. This is an "awake" role and the successful candidate must be able to work 12 hour shifts.
The Overnight Support Worker’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting with evening programs and night routines
- Providing personal care, Emotional Support, and Crisis Support
- Maintaining general awareness of the activities or whereabouts of clients in the house
- Monitoring and reporting on client’s health and wellbeing
- Assisting with medications
- Resolving issues related to shared living
- Carry out crisis intervention
- Maintaining the operation of the house and property by conducting security, fire, health and safety checks
- Administer basic first aid as required and activate the appropriate emergency procedures
- Identify potential issues, communicate to day staff, and record incidents as required
- Document all overnight activity, incidents or events in appropriate logs and files
- General housekeeping and cleaning of common areas
- Serving continental breakfasts (prepped by kitchen staff) and ensuring dining area is cleaned prior to daytime programming
Abilities and Attributes:
- Prior education /experience in addictions recovery is an asset
- Lived experiences that support clinical competencies are valued
- Understanding of principles involved in trauma-informed, person-centered approaches
- Awareness of the healing potential of non-ordinary states of consciousness
- Positive attitude, strong interpersonal skills, and collaborative working style
- Respectful and culturally aware
- Ability to assess and clearly articulate clients’ needs
- Accurate documentation skills
- Excellent workplace communication skills (written & verbal)
Credentials include:
- Post-secondary courses in social services or completion of other addiction training programs and/or combination of relevant work and lived experience
- Previous experience in addictions recovery is preferred
Applicants require a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
Applicants must also possess valid Driver’s License and hold current certification in CPR and First Aid prior to start date.
