JOB SUMMARY As an active member of the multidisciplinary team, the Occupational
Therapist assesses the client’s functional abilities, develops and implements an intervention plan, develops, restores or maintains capabilities, compensates disabilities, minimizes handicap situations and adapts environments with the goal of optimizing the client’s autonomy, and safety.
REQUIREMENTS Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy
Registered member in good standing of the Ordre des Ergothérapeutes du Québec (OEQ)
Experience in physical medicine, geriatrics and home care services preferred
SALARY In accordance with the Quebec Ministry of Health and Social Services
(MSSS) reference Code 1230, Group 750:
Echelon 1 $27.46 to Echelon 18 $50.39 per hour, depending on experience

JOB SUMMARY
As an active member of the interdisciplinary team, the Occupational Therapist assesses the client’s functional abilities, develops and implements an intervention plan, develops, restores or maintains capabilities, compensates disabilities, minimizes handicap situations and adapts environments with the goal of optimizing the client’s autonomy, and safety.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operates according to the Ordre des ergothérapeutes du Québec’s (OEQ) professional standards, guidelines and Code of ethics
- Adheres to KMHC’s code of ethics, philosophy, policies and procedures
- Has attitudes and behaviors which assure the provision of safe care and services
- Is vigilant and takes responsibility to ensure a safe environment for all
- Declares all risk situations, near misses or accidents that are witnessed or discovered on
KMHC premises
- To foster an approach to care that is respectful, compassionate and culturally appropriate and competent, responsive to the needs, values, beliefs and preferences of clients and their family member, supporting mutually beneficial partnerships between clients, and health care providers

DUTIES
Clinical Responsibilities:
- Analyses OT referrals: collects information, determines admissibility, pertinence and priority level, and redirects client to other resources if indicated
- Provides OT services to outpatients and homecare clients in an interdisciplinary client- centred approach
- Obtains informed consent prior to and throughout service provision
- Establishes and maintains a therapeutic relationship with the client
- Conducts initial interview and proceeds with formal assessment/screening: occupational performance (self-care, productivity and leisure), performance components (physical, sensorimotor, cognitive, perceptual and psychosocial functions), and environmental aspects affecting performance (physical, social, cultural), as indicated
- Analyses and communicates the assessment findings to the client, the referrer and the team
- Develops and implements an intervention plan in collaboration with client
- Evaluates the intervention plan and revises it as needed, in collaboration with client
- Determines the need for equipment and/or adaptive devices (e.g.: wheelchairs, splints etc.).
- Assists in acquiring equipment and devices through the appropriate funding source
- Educates and provides training on the proper use of equipment and devices
- Refers client to other resources when required
- Documents according to OEQ and KMHC regulations in EMR MYLE
- Maintains open communication with the client, family, caregivers and professionals involved
- Supervises rehabilitation assistants and/or students providing OT services
- Participates in interdisciplinary team (multidisciplinary rounds, case discussions, family meetings, interdisciplinary care plans)
- Discontinues OT services when indicated
- Adheres to all patient/staff health and safety regulations
Administrative Responsibilities – in collaboration with other Rehab Dept team members:
- Participates in employee meetings
- Participates in Quality Improvement activities including: o Identifying areas of potential risk and taking action to minimize these risks o Creating, revising and implementing OT services standards, policies and procedures, and objectives o Program planning and management o Planning, organization, coordination, supervision and evaluation of OT services o Contributing to a work environment that supports a safe, ethical and effective client- centred OT approach to care
- Participates in the management of human resources including: o Interviewing, orientating, training new employees o Contributing to performance appraisals, as indicated o Supervising non-professional staff and OT students in the OT services provided
- Participates in financial, physical and environmental resources management including inventory control, requesting equipment for OT services, department and equipment maintenance
- Compiles daily statistics
- Participates in annual reports and other required reports
- Participates in hospital committees as indicated
- Provides OT consultation to other departments
- Participates in the promotion of OT, health and prevention programs
- Engages in professional development and integrates into practice: new technical aids, concepts, trends and guidelines on Evidence Based Best Practices
- Provides clinical teaching to OT students, other students and staff, as indicated
- Maintains effective communication and public relations within KMHC, and with other community and outside organizations
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy
- Registered member of the Ordre des Ergothérapeutes du Québec (OEQ)
- Experience in physical medicine, geriatrics and home care services preferred
Language Skills:
Ability to comprehend and communicate information from professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
Ability to communicate information in ways clients can understand
Ability to write reports, correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to carry out detailed written and oral instruction
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
Ability to collect information, draw conclusion and intervene in a consistent and logical fashion
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to sit, walk, bend, squat, carry equipment up to 25 lbs, talk, hear and stand.
The employee is frequently required to use hands and fingers to handle controls
Other Qualifications:
- Computer skills, able to use Microsoft office, e-mail, and willingness to learn new computer programs.
- Good communication skills required (spoken and written)
- Good knowledge of French required (spoken and written)
- Knowledge of Mohawk language, culture and history an asset
- Has initiative and a positive attitude, is accountable and self-directed
- Ability to provide services in a professional manner

- Good physical health
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a vehicle
