The Information Technology Generalist reports directly to the Director of Corporate Services. This position is the primary point of contact for staff requiring technical support. The ITS will deploy, establish, administer, and maintain parts of our multi-platform computer and networking environment and a variety of special-purpose systems. They work with City of Iqaluit staff to provide day to day support, troubleshoot issues, install and configure software, and liaise with system vendors.

Responsible for the setup, installation, configuration, management, departmental desktop application installation and maintenance of city desktops and laptops. Along with software and applications on all city workstations.

Installation and configuration of various peripheral devices as required to support users’ needs;

Responsible for phone and name display changes, and voicemail password resets.

Providing end user support for any hardware/device issues that arise;
-
Management of decommissioning and disposal of all PCs and peripherals.

Work with all city departments in onboarding account creation, changes to account information including changes to security groups and providing and managing contractor access as well as contributes to desktop/network security by expiring all accounts for exiting employees.

Work with system vendors who provide and manage IT systems for various city services.

Establish processes for organizing staff requests, providing timely support, and following up on requests and tasks; and for referring them to the appropriate person, vendor, or service provider as needed.

Providing support to City staff for the various software products in use on their workstations;

Responsible for providing basic support and configuration for the various phone sets and voicemail systems in use at the City;

Providing basic troubleshooting for the various phone systems in use at the City, and in conjunction with NWTEL arrange for more advanced troubleshooting and support as required;

Assists in the management and implementation of the City’s hardware upgrade plan for desktops, laptops and peripherals;
-
Assist in maintaining current and accurate inventory of technology hardware, software resources.

Assist in the creation and organization of IT documentation, records and training materials.

Other related duties as assigned

Minimum Level of Education/Training:

College degree, diploma, or certification in computer science or related field
Minimum Level of Experience:

Minimum two years’ experience supporting, implementing and/or administering networks, servers, desktops and printers.
Assets:

Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE) or Microsoft Certified System Administrator (MCSA) would be beneficial but not required.
