Position Summary:
Reporting to the Associate Director, Recruitment and Communications, this role will support the coordination, implementation, and evaluation of recruitment and yield strategies developed for the Quebec market. The incumbent will provide quality advice and service on a diverse range of admissions matters to applicants, students, staff, the public, and senior management. Plans, coordinates, and participates in individual and/or team in-person and virtual visits representing McGill to Quebec CEGEPs and High Schools. Participates in the planning and evaluation of McGill undergraduate recruitment events targeting prospective, applicant, admitted and confirmed students, parents, and counselors. Presents information and promotional material about McGill, including undergraduate admissions criteria, academic programs, student life and services, and campuses. Participates in recruitment and yield activities representing McGill. Interacts with the Admissions Office to help ensure alignment of the recruitment and yield strategies with admissions policies. Uses the current recruiting platforms and data to plan, schedule, and monitor activities. Plans and participates in recruitment activities and makes presentations to groups at High Schools, CEGEPs, campus tours, and recruitment fairs. As supervisor for a team of unionized management staff, acts as resource person in handling conflicts and difficult situations. Empowers staff by mentoring and coaching.
Primary responsibilities:

Hire, train, supervise, and coach a team of unionized staff members. Distribute workload, determine deadlines, responsible for continuous evaluation, and resolve issues related to work and team dynamics. Provide updates and answer questions related to ongoing and new tasks.

Lead and coordinate the training of Recruitment Associates and Student Ambassadors with the participation and support of the other Recruitment Managers and the Welcome Centre Supervisor, making sure that they are well informed of university practices and programs to ensure strong delivery of information and support of our prospective students and their support networks by the recruitment team.

Participate in the budget planning exercise and makes recommendations regarding resource allocation for recruitment and on-campus activities. Monitor and provide reports on the recruitment of international students, including the tracking of related budgets and expenditures.

Overall responsibility for the planning, delivery, and evaluation of Quebec and on-campus recruitment events and activities, to maximize the number of qualified applicants in alignment with set enrolment targets. Oversee the work of the Admissions and Recruitment Events Administrator for the organization of major on-campus events such as Open House, Study at McGill, etc. Develop appropriate measurement criteria to evaluate the effectiveness of recruitment activities and business process.

Provide senior level feedback/recommendations to the Associate Director on the development, implementation, and evaluation of short and long-term recruitment strategies for Quebec that support the strategic direction of the unit and university enrolment priorities for undergraduate admissions by keeping abreast of best practices, new developments, technology, and trends in the fields of recruitment and enrolment. Contribute to the development of the Canadian recruitment strategy for francophone markets outside Quebec.

Under the direction of the Associate Director, build and maintain relationships with Faculties, Student Services, University Advancement, and other internal McGill units to provide guidance on recruitment best practices, explore opportunities for collaboration, and ensure alignment of McGill’s undergraduate recruitment and communications efforts. Facilitates the participation of McGill faculty, staff and alumni at recruitment and yield events.

Lead and manage ES efforts in building relationships and providing program and admission guidance within the Quebec CEGEP and High School communities (in particular, with the CEGEP guidance counsellor community).

Act as the subject matter expert on Quebec liaison activities for the recruitment team and remain aware of market activity through targeted observations, professional networks, and reports.

Represent the Recruitment team on working groups, project teams, and committees, as required.

Prepare travel schedules and make travel arrangements, coordinate and manage recruitment and yield events, complete visit/event reports and expense reports, and ensure follow-up on issues raised during and after visits/events (expect 6 to 8 weeks of travel per year).
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities:
Supervisory experience a requirement. Experience advising potential students on admissions criteria. Knowledge of the student life cycle. Experience in student recruitment in Quebec a definite asset. McGill undergraduate experience an asset. Ability to support staff in their daily recruitment and administrative operations. Proven experience in data analysis: ability to review statistics and reports, condense, recap, and evaluate data to propose and plan effective recruitment activities. Proven organizational skills, ability to prioritize, and multi-task accurately with attention to detail. Experience working in a PC environment using databases, presentation software, web tools, CRMs, and Microsoft Teams. Excellent interpersonal, communication, public speaking, and writing skills. Proven experience organizing events and fairs locally and at out-of-town venues. Experience in the creation of dynamic presentations, an asset. Proven ability to work autonomously and as a member of a team. Valid Quebec Driver’s license and valid Passport. Availability to travel short and long distances extensively and using various modes of transportation. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, and weekends. English and French written and spoken. McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing.
