Job Description
Position: Outreach Medical Mobile Health Unit
Temporary until March 2024, with the potential to extend
Hours: 8 hour shifts
Varying between hours of 0800-2000.
Monday-Friday
Schedule TBD. *Must be able to work 1-2 evenings/week.
This role requires the successful candidate to work as part of the outreach team in a Sprinter van which has been outfitted as a mobile health unit. The mobile health unit will deliver outreach health services to various community agencies serving vulnerable individuals. It is a unique role that requires individuals who are adaptable and comfortable performing duties that do not always fall within typical clinical duties, such as van maintenance. This role requires the individual to work both collaboratively with external community agencies and with a great degree of autonomy to deliver health services in an outreach capacity.

Specimen collection

Overdose response & prevention

Assist providers with medical procedures

Care coordination (referrals, appointment bookings, completion of forms, etc.)

Health education

Client advocacy

Collaborate with external community agencies to deliver health services to clients

Driving mobile health unit to outreach sites in various types of weather
-
Van maintenance (Cleaning, dropping off at the dealership etc.)
Qualifications
-
LPN, RN or Paramedic
-
Active registration with CLPNA, CARNA or ACP
-
Valid driver's license
-
Current CPR
-
Vulnerable sector check and criminal record check
-
Non-violent crisis intervention is an asset
Knowledge/Skills
-
Able to balance numerous demands and conflicting priorities, strong problem-solving skills

Experience with marginalized and vulnerable populations
-
Strong wound care and foot care skills are an asset
-
Self-motivated and comfortable working independently
-
Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team

Ability to demonstrate patience and understanding for those with substance misuse and mental health disorders

Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Knowledge of de-escalation techniques

Strong computer proficiency, and experience with Med Access EMR an asset
-
Understanding of trauma-informed care
-
Must be able to operate within a harm-reduction model of care

Understanding of cultural awareness
**Applicants must be comfortable with the following**

Driving an extended Sprinter van in all seasons/weather conditions
-
Spending time outdoors in all seasons/weather conditions to set up the mobile health unit

Lifting and carrying up to 30 kg
