The British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) is currently seeking a Client Experience o-op student for the Winter 2024 work term (January to April) to provide research, writing and editing, and event management support for our client education and communications program.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
The Client Experience co-op/intern assists with the development, planning, and execution of client education events and programs, conducts research and crafts communication materials on a broad range of investment-related issues (e.g., investment products, strategies, performance reporting, climate change, ESG, and profiling internal BCI teams and leaders), and assists with client support of The Exchange – BCI’s client portal.
WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH
You will work with the Client Experience team within our Corporate & Investor Relations department. The team strengthens our relationships with clients through proactive engagement, effective communication and appropriate delivery and feedback channels. Client Experience works closely with BCI’s Client Relations team and others to provide clients with high-quality service and deliverables – always working to build long-term relationships based on trust and to ensure that we exceed our clients’ investment performance and service expectations.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
Support the efforts of the Client Experience team to proactively ensure that BCI exceeds our clients’ service expectations
Assist in the planning and execution of client education events and offerings, including virtual webcasts and conferences, in-person workshops and due diligence tours
Assist in the development and management of The Exchange – BCI’s client portal (including the creation of new content, preparing analytic reports, and integration of new features)
Develop a strong understanding of client needs, the specific communication objectives for various institutional investors (e.g., pensions funds, insurance funds, and special purpose funds), and contribute to the delivery of associated communication plans
Develop client ready responses to their requests – understand individual client needs/concerns and be able to tailor a response
Conduct independent research and develop communication materials (reports, presentations, briefing notes, articles) on a broad range of investment-related issues for clients, external partners and internal teams
Actively adhere to compliance and risk management policies and participate in BCI’s business continuity plan
THE IDEAL STUDENT
Has a keen interest in financial journalism, communication, and digital media
Has experience with event planning and delivery
Is a strong writer able to create compelling content
Demonstrates an ability to conduct research efficiently, analyze information, and present it in a concise manner
Likes to solve problems using creative and innovative solutions
Demonstrates an extremely strong work ethic and displays initiative to strive to deliver value above and beyond the job description
Has relevant prior co-op experience
Preference will be given to students who have shown initiative and a passion for the investment industry
REQUIRED SKILLS
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential
Ability to create clear and concise communication materials for digital and print platforms
Impeccable attention to detail
Strong interpersonal, time management, and project management skills
Analytical and problem-solving abilities
Able to work with senior investment professionals in a dynamic, performance-driven environment
Working towards the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation would be an asset

Travel: if coming to Victoria for this work term, BCI will provide a fixed-rate travel allowance based on your location
