The Manager, Safety manages the Safety Management System (SMS) and corporate safety. The Manager, Safety reports to the Vice President of Maintenance Operations (Person Responsible for Maintenance) and the Vice President Flight Operations (705 Operations Manager) with direct open access to the Accountable Executive for matters relating to the Pivot Airlines Safety Management System (SMS).
JOB DESCRIPTION
- Managing the operation of the Safety Management System (SMS);
- Establish and maintain a reporting system to ensure the timely collection of information related to hazards, incidents and accidents that may adversely affect safety (SMS);
- Identify hazards and carry out risk management analyses of those hazards;
- Investigate, analyze and identify the cause or probable cause of all hazards, incidents and accidents identified under the Safety Management System (SMS);
- Establish and maintain a safety data system, by electronic or other suitable means, to monitor and analyze trends in hazards, incidents and accidents;
- Monitor and evaluate the results of the Corrective Action Plans with respect to hazards, incidents and accidents;
- Monitor the concerns of the civil aviation industry in respect of safety and their perceived effect on the Pivot Airlines Approved Maintenance Organization (AMO) and the Operating Certificates;
- Determine the adequacy of the training required by the Safety Management System (SMS);
- Report to the Vice President of Maintenance Operations and the Vice President of Flight Operations Manager the hazards, incidents and accidents identified under the Safety Management System;
- Administer any safety related surveys;
- Be involved with actual or practice emergency responses as well as the development and updating of the emergency response plan and procedures;
- Ensure safety related information, including organizational goals and objectives, are made available to all personnel through established communication processes;
- Any other additional duties or projects assigned by the Vice President of Maintenance Operations and Vice President Flight Operations.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Full-time experience in aviation safety in the capacity of an aviation safety investigator, safety/quality manager or safety risk manager;
- Sound knowledge of Pivot Arline’s operations, procedures and activities;
- Broad aviation technical knowledge;
- Extensive knowledge of Safety Management System (SMS) and completion of appropriate Safety Management System (SMS) training;
- Solid understanding of risk management principles and techniques to support the Safety Management System (SMS);
- Experience implementing and/or managing a Safety Management System (SMS);
- Experience and qualifications in aviation accident/incident investigation and human factors;
- Experience and qualifications in conducting safety/quality audits and inspections;
- Sound knowledge of appropriate aviation regulatory frameworks, including ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPS) and relevant civil aviation regulations, determined by where the aircraft are operated;
- Communicate at all levels both inside and outside the company;
- Promote a ‘just and fair culture’ and yet advance an open and non-punitive atmosphere for reporting;
- Confidence to communicate directly to the accountable executive as their advisor and confidante;
- Strong communication skills and demonstrated interpersonal skills of a high order, with the ability to liaise with a variety of individuals and organizational representatives;
- Sound computer literacy and superior analytical skills;
- Self-starter with demonstrated leadership, conflict resolution, problem solving, and negotiating skills;
- Strong planning, organizational, and time management skills;
- High degree of diplomacy and discretion when dealing with sensitive security, public relations, and government relations issues;
