The Sr. Employee Relations (ER) Consultant is accountable to provide CIBC HR and business partners with objective, proactive and responsive specialized advice to enable effective HR governance and risk mitigation that contributes to maintaining a positive work environment. The Sr. ER Consultant provides education and may guide team members to ensure that decisions are made that meet the needs of the employee and organization in an equitable, objective and professional manner.
Advice & Consultation
Provide pro-active and specialized employee relations advice/consultation to business partners (including senior and executive management) in partnership with the human resources client service teams and the Employee Relations, Policy Governance Team in order to minimize risk to CIBC relative to employment matters (e.g. reputational, legal, legislative).
Conflict Management Support
- Assist managers and employees in successful resolution of workplace issues and conflicts;

Optimize and provide new and creative approaches to workplace issue resolution;

Recommend approaches to encourage increase communication between employees and managers that improve ongoing working relations.

Collaborate with stakeholders and HR teams to address disability management files, tracking status, reintegration and accommodation options in the workplace. Ensure employees and managers know how to access resources for workplace accommodations to ensure all internal avenues of support are made available and optimized as options.

Investigate and respond to Escalated Issues.
Litigation File Management

Investigate, and respond to pre-litigation files to maximize opportunity for effective & timely resolution and risk mitigation, consulting with internal Counsel as required.

Investigate, support and prepare required documentation for litigation files, under the direction internal counsel.
Management Information, Trends and Tracking
- In partnership with the HR Client Services teams, scan the internal employee relations environment to highlight issues and work on proactive approaches to address workplace issues systemically e.g. trends, hot spots and opportunities for improvement.

Identify trends and common themes that will help inform leadership decision-making. Maintain thorough accurate documentation on all matters; ensure that information is sufficiently recorded in a timely manner in the ER Case Management tracking system. Proactively manage and follow up outstanding issues for timely resolution.
CROSS-FUNCTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

A related university degree or equivalent work experience required. Employment law designation or
