Position Overview:
LawDepot.com is currently expanding and looking to recruit a Software Development Manager in Edmonton, Alberta. Working with the Information Systems team, you will be responsible for performing both technical leadership and people management to create new functionality for our legal software platform. This is a full-time permanent position, working 37.5 hours per week with opportunities for a hybrid work schedule.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Manage Software Developers and Scrum Masters working to create technical solutions that deliver an exceptional experience for our millions of users
- Oversee all software development activities and ensure the high-quality delivery of projects
- Provide direction and guidance for multiple software development teams with a variety of skill specialties
- Train, coach, and mentor reports to deliver high-performance
- Create team-level strategy and collaborate on technical roadmaps and specifications
- Set team objectives, regularly evaluate results, and conduct performance management
- Plan future expansions and contribute to architecture guidance
- Manage project schedules, scope, work estimates, and ensure deliverables are on time and within budget
- Work with senior management to adjust job position specifications to keep up with current business requirements
- Ensure teams are following industry-leading practices and using training material to enable greater efficiencies and continued growth
- Regulate the technical debt within teams
- Work with Architects and Developers to formulate technical designs
- Lead code reviews, share knowledge, provide feedback, create efficiencies, and brainstorm ideas
- Research new tools, technologies, and processes to identify opportunities for the department
- Collaborate with Product Owners and agile teams to determine business requirements, overcome obstacles, and strategize timelines
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
- Post-secondary education in Computing Science or equivalent
- 7+ years of experience in Software Development and Leadership oriented roles
- Demonstrated track record of delivering technology projects
- In-depth knowledge of development best practices
- Ability to manage people, projects, and process
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Advanced knowledge with our core technology stack: TypeScript / JavaScript, C#, .NET (5+)
- Additional knowledge in the following areas:JavaScript frameworks: Vue 3 (preferred), Angular, React
- Database: SQL (Microsoft SQL Server), Entity Framework Core, Object OrientedTools: Git, Visual Studio / VS Code, Zod, Abstract syntax trees (AST)Unit Testing frameworks: Vitest, NUnit, xUnit, Selenium, JestSCSS (or CSS, LESS, SASS), JSON, HTML
- Drive to achieve objectives
- Good business acumen and the ability to understand company needs
- Knowledge of design patterns and best practices
- Experience conducting code reviews and providing valuable feedback to developers
- Familiarity with Agile processes
