Farm Hand Job Description - Must have G license

Reports to: Farm Manager, Ted Stacey
Purpose of this position:
To ensure the assets of Ste. Anne’s and grounds are maintained with the standards expected of a world-class four-diamond property and to ensure the smooth operation of the farm.
Key Objective # 1 – Daily Tasks
- Building and repairing fences
- Clearing paddocks
- Clearing trails
- Property upkeep at farm and spa
- Tidying the construction sites
- Backup grass cutter
- Snow removal
- Raking leaves
- Assisting other facility teams as needed
- Feeding and watering of livestock
- Ensure animal water supply is clean and not frozen and the animals have access to water
- Move livestock from field to field
- Cleaning and bedding of cow stalls
- Maintain cover crops, spread manure where necessary
- Prepare ground for planting and harvesting
- Plant seeds
- Maintenance of pastures
- hay baling, harrowing fields
Key Objective #2 – Follow behaviour as outlined in training, employment contract, policies and job description
- Help maintain a cohesive, cooperative work environment through team building and motivation
- Speak about guests, co-workers and the company in the most positive and respectful terms, discourage gossip and negative conversations
- Avoid standing and chatting in visible guest areas
- Attend and actively participate in a positive way in team meetings
- Maintain good interdepartmental relationships
- Find ways to compliment your co-workers for the good work they do
- Mentor and support all of your peers when they are new or need assistance
Key Objective #3 – Health and safety and non-gossip
- Follow safe shoe policy – steel toe boots
- Follow dress code – dress appropriately for weather conditions
- Follow all safety procedures
- Abide by the rules under Bill 168 – bullying, harassment and AODA – respect of disability
- Follow departmental hazard training, completing once every year
- Adhere to the no gossip policy
- Adhere to the five-ten rule of acknowledgement for all staff and guests

- Follow all call in procedures

- Follow the rules for time clock punches arriving on time and taking appropriate breaks

Training – Safety Training, First Aid and CPR, Emergency Procedure Training
Experience – two years of experience in the farming industry
Problem Solving Authority – Be responsible for forwarding guest concerns to appropriate area. Call in emergency medical assistance when required. Call in police when there is a breach in security.
Physical Requirements – must be able to stand for long periods of time, must be able to lift up to 30 kg
Job requires squatting, kneeling, bending, lifting, twisting at the waist and reaching above shoulder height
Schedule Requirements – must be available to work most weekends, must be available for evenings, normal shifts will be 8.0 hours with a half hour lunch break, scheduled days will fluctuate with the needs of the business
Job Requirements – high school diploma or equivalent, time management: ability to organize and manage multiple projects, strong customer orientation, demonstrates ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, willing to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, articulate in English, commitment to company mission and vision
