The Employment Programs at WERC assist unemployed and under-employed people in accessing job related training and skills that will assist them in gaining entry-level employment. The Employment Liaison will be responsible for working one on one with participants who do not meet our current entrance requirements for training and will also assist all participants with resumes and job searches. The Employment Liaison will be responsible for sourcing and securing employment opportunities for participants. Liaisons also assist with teaching training programs, as well as course development and learner evaluation in support of the Training Facilitator.
Primary responsibilities include:
· Promote the Employment Program and Job Connecting Program through:
- Networking
- Advertising – Social media platforms, posters, etc.
- Information sessions and presentations
· Source job leads – match program participants to job opportunities as they are sourced
· Engage with employers to build relationships and partnerships with the Job Connecting Program
· Develop and prepare job placement contracts outlining terms, conditions and length of agreed training or job placement
· Schedule one-on-one appointments with clients
· Assess goals and level of employment or education readiness
· Determine client suitability for training courses
· Communicate training dates and program details to interested parties
· Administer entrance assessments and interviews
· Help with setup and takedown of the classroom
· Assist in the delivery of training programs
· Grade and evaluate learner performance
· Collaborate with other employment program staff to update, modify or develop new training courses
· Provide career and employment counselling; help participants develop an action plan to reach their employment goals
· Assist clients with resume and cover letter development, job search and applications
· Assist clients with interview preparation; workshops, mock-interviews
· Conduct client follow-ups
· Case Management; maintain and update client case notes
· Prepare and submit monthly program progress reports to the Project Manager; maintain accurate records and statistical data for reports including measurable outcomes
· Help with developing fundraising initiatives throughout the fiscal year; set goals to raise additional funding to support the Employment Program
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Willingness and drive to help clients facing multiple barriers gain employment
- Applied or academic experience delivering trainings
- Applied or academic experience with presentations and public speaking
- Ability to accompany the Senior Liaison/Assistant Program Coordinator to other locations for meetings and presentations
- Experience in a call centre setting or customer service environment
- Proven ability to meet or exceed targets
- Experience in retail sales
- Case management or SPRS (Service Provider Reporting Solutions) knowledge and experience an asset
- Coaching, advising and mentorship experience
- Demonstrated networking skills
- Knowledge of resume and cover letter formats
- Ability to review, edit and write professional, impactful resumes and cover letters
- Strong computer skills; proficient in Microsoft applications
- Excellent problem-solving skills and communication skills, both written and oral
- Strong English skills and a confident phone manner
- Strong organization and prioritization skills; follows instructions well
- Proactive leader, positive attitude, enjoys taking initiative, works well independently as well as in a team
- Understanding of barriers to employment as well as the newcomer, immigrant, and refugee experience
- Knowledge of community resources providing services to low-income and multi-barrier clients
- Knowledge of job searching techniques and local labour market trends
- Experience working with marginalized people
- Satisfactory Criminal record and Child/Adult Registry Check
- Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or have suitable authorization to work full time in Canada for the duration of the contract
- Valid Driver's licence and access to a vehicle is strongly preferred
