Position Summary
The RECEPTIONIST performs a number of clerical activities and functions including and not limited to:
Duties
-
Greeting and directing patients and visitors;
-
Answering, screening and directing telephone calls;
- Maintaining departmental lists and room booking schedules;
- Ordering and maintaining departmental supplies for fax machines, printers, copiers, scanners etc.;
- Ensuring the efficient operation of the department;
- Performing clerical support functions including: word-processing/typing routine correspondence, etc.

Photocopying; sorting and distributing mail, etc.

Providing FAX services; performing cross-functional responsibilities, and other duties consistent with the job classification, as required.
Qualifications
-
Completion of Grade XII or recognized equivalent
-
Three (3) months related experience
-
Previous on-the-job word-processing experience
-
Excellent telephone, interpersonal and customer service skills
-
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
-
A self-starter with excellent organizational, time management and prioritization skills
-
Must have keyboarding and computer skills
-
Ability to work effectively under pressure
-
Ability to use good judgment in assessing difficult situations
-
Ability to work independently and interdependently as a member of a Health care Team

Ability to work with attention to detail and accuracy
-
Knowledge of general office practices, procedures and standards

Experience in a Microsoft Office software environment preferred

Experience working in a health care environment preferred

Knowledge of medical terminology preferred
