Founded in 1910 and located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Mount Royal University grew into a vibrant college in the 1930s and became a mid-sized university in 2009. Event and Theatre Services (ETS) is a division of the Finance and Commercial Operations area of Mount Royal University (MRU). ETS encompasses both the Theatre and Conference service operations of MRU and is responsible for booking and executing exceptional quality events in MRU's performance venues (Taylor Centre for the Performing Arts, Ross Glen Hall, Wright Theatre, Leacock Theatre, Nickle Theatre, and associated classroom and event spaces). ETS is home of the Taylor Centre Concert Season, and Bella Live from your Couch virtual presentation seasons as well as being considered one of the top 5 roadhouse venue operators in Calgary.
This role is a great opportunity to work within a dynamic team while providing service to guests and patrons in our performing arts and conference & event venues. Our Bartenders play a key role in providing memorable experiences to our valued guests & patrons . Bartenders report to the Bar Services Supervisor and work collectively to operate Bar Services at the Taylor Centre for the Performing Arts, the Mount Royal Conference and Event Centre and several other venues at Mount Royal University. Our bar service staff serve both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages as well as confections to patrons at public and private events. Bartenders collect payments via Moneris pinpad terminals and are required to track sales via the square POS application.
This is a part-time casual position working approximately 14 hours per week.
When working a shift, Bartenders provide the highest level of of beverage and food service
Responsible for pre-service stocking, inventory and cleaning to ensure the safe delivery of a variety of alcoholic beverages, non-alcoholic beverages and confections
Complete payments using a point of sale system
Process post service “cash out” documentation and reconcile sales for the Bar Supervisor or Head Bartender approval
Performing post-service cleaning and closing checklists to make sure that the bar is ready for pre-service prep at the next event
The ability to work flexible hours on a varied schedule - which may include day or evening shifts during the week and or, on the weekend
The capacity to work independently and in a team environment efficiently
Experience working in hospitality or customer service is desirable
Must be 18 years of age or older
A minimum of one year experience in the food service industry
All bartenders are required to have Proserve training and will be provided the opportunity to complete this training prior to their first shift
First-aid/CPR certification is recommended
