MacLean Engineering & Marketing Co. Limited is looking for a skilled and experienced Payroll and Benefits Manager to join our team at our Barrie, ON manufacturing facility. About the Position: The Payroll and Benefits Manager position will manage and ensure accurate bi-weekly disbursement of payroll in multiple provinces and states in the USA and Australia and processing garnishments, benefits and taxes consistent with applicable regulations. The position will also require proficient, correct, timely and safe execution of the following daily work tasks:

Examine and verify the accuracy of payroll data including employer and employee payroll taxes, benefits and other deductions
Reconcile account balances for the purpose of maintaining accurate accounts while complying with related policies, practices and regulations
Oversee, coordinate, and assign the work of payroll staff, managing all daily, weekly, monthly, and annual functions. Complete all year-end payroll procedures, government filings and legislated reporting and remittances in all jurisdictions
Process government insurance remittances
Communicate with a variety of internal and external parties for the purpose of ensuring the accurate processing of payroll deductions and garnishments
Coordinate the training of managers and supervisors on overall payroll related company policies and payroll procedures, as well as the electronic payroll system being used by the company
Research and resolve discrepancies of payroll information and/or documentation for the purpose of ensuring accuracy and adherence to company policy
Ensure smooth operation of payroll software implementations and upgrades as they occur
Prepare, calculate and process profit sharing, commissions, bonuses and DPSP & RRSP contributions
Establish and maintain payroll controls and payroll related procedures for ISO compliance
Remain current on new legislation and regulatory rulings impacting payroll and benefits
Ensure service delivery quality for all processes and procedures, keeping third parties accountable if necessary
Research & recommend new payroll/benefit technologies to improve efficiency for company & employee services as required
Maintain an ongoing review of benefits to measure market competitiveness
Management of relationships with insurers, brokers, and benefits providers

About You: The successful candidate will ideally have the following education and experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, business administration or equivalent
Possesses a National Payroll Institute Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) designation.
Enrolment in or completion of the National Payroll Institute - Certified Payroll Manager Designation
Minimum 10+ years of experience in payroll / benefit administration & staff supervision
Proficient in MS Excel (VLOOKUP’s, Pivot tables and other formulas)
Experience with preparing payroll related journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations
Experience working collaboratively with multiple stakeholders
Experience in automated payroll and timekeeping systems preferably Workforce Now
Experience with administration of international payroll (US and Australia are preferred)
Experience managing international payroll vendors is preferred
